This is an example we did in class:

1.) Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6 divided by 2.
She claims that the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.
My answer. ) I don't agree because I think she didn't use B.E.D.M.A.S. If she used it then her answer would be 4.7.
Here's how I got that answer:

2.) Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you use? 3x2.8+6.4 divided by 4
My Answer) (3x2.8) + 6.4 divided by 4 =
6.4 + 6.4 divided by 4 =
8.4 + 1.6 =
10

Solution: Jimmy wanted to buy something for his sister's birthday and he found a very nice bracelet that costs 11.75. He went back home to see how much money he had in his wallet, he only had 1.50 so he was 8 dollars short. Jimmy really wanted to get the bracelet for his sister, but he didn't have enough money .. so he had to ask his mom or dad. His parents said that he had to either sell 5 of his things for 1.60 each or do 5 chores for 1.60 each. He chose to sell 5 of his things very quickly before his sister finds out, within 2 hours he had enough to buy the bracelet for his sister!
