Fractions, Decimal, Percents

This is what we did today on thursday.

We did how to turn decimals into fractions and the other way, turn fractions into decimals.

eg.
Another thing about fractions and decimals is when there is a decimal with a hundredths place value the denominator will be 100

eg.
The last we did was how to use a ratio table but I forgot how to use it so I will be doing it on a calculator
65 * 120 = 7800 but the real percentage is 78%
Sorry I did it late I got a bit lazy

Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

Before you do anything with fractions, decimals, and percents you should know what they mean....

Fraction- out of any whole number

Decimal- out of 1

Percent- out of 100

Loading Strips

Loading Strips- used to answer questions like
50% of 20

Here is an example how to use a loading strip.....

50% of 20

That is one way how to find and answer besides using the loading srtip......USING A RATIO TABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

A ratio table is like a loading strip but sideways.

__%_____I_____#__
I
I
I
I
I
I

Here is a way how to find 15 of 64 using ratio table.......

Sorry I couldn't a video about both raito tables and loading strips

ratio table with percents

the ratio table is basically the percent on one side and the whole number on the other side.
i know it is a little hard but if you look at it it is the same as what we did

look at this picture and and pretend129 is 100 and pretend that we divide it by 2 and we would get 50 and keep doing that!
on the other side lets pretend that100 is 20 we divide it by 2 and get 10 and you keep doing that until you make it easier for your self

Area of a triangle

Area of a triangle

A = 1/2 x b x h                20 x 12 = 240                   240 / 2 = 120 cm 2

OR

HALF OF 20 = 10 X 12 = 120 cm 2

BOTH WAYS GIVE YOU THE SAME ANSWER

Chapter 03 review 14-15

What is the area of each parallelogram?
14)

Answer for a) :

Area= B x H
Area= 5 x 3
Area= 15 m2

15)

Answer to b) : Area of the rectangle is 2.7 times the area of the
parallelogram. The difference is the length of the
base, the height is the same.

Here is a video on how to find the area of a parallelogram.

Click on the link on how to find the area of a parallelogram.

Chapter 03 Review 11 - 13

11. Draw the following angles.

Draw the angle bisectors using two different methods. Measure the two angles of each bisected angle. Record each set of angle measures.

Answer:

12. An architect measure the angle of a roof to be 132 degrees.

A) Predict the measures of the resulting angles if you bisect the angle.

B) Bisect the angle. Verify your predictions by measuring.

Answer:

A) 66 degrees.

B)

13. You construct an angle bisector of an 80 degree angle. You then construct an angle bisector of one of the resulting angles.

A) What is the measure of the smallest angle?

B) How does the measure of the smallest angle compare to the measure of the original angle?

Answer:

A) 20 degrees.

B) 1/4 of the original angle.

Thanks for reading. Sorry it took so late. And I'm sorry if this was not the one I was supposed to do, haha!

Chapter 3. 1-7

1. Describes lines
that intersect at 90° 1. Perpendicular

2. Describes lines
in the same plane
that never intersect 2. Parallel

3. A line that divides a
line segment in half
and is at right angles 3. Perpendicular Bisector
(90°) to it

4. A line that divides a
angle into two equal parts 4. Angle Bisector

5. A part of a line between
two endpoints 5. Line Segment

6. Which of the following are parallel
and which are perpendicular?

Parallel lines are lines that never cross or intersect.
Ex:

Perpendicular lines are lines that intersect at a 90° angle.

7. Copy these line segments into your
notebook. Draw two perpendicular line
segments and two parallel line segments for each

A perpendicular bisector is this:

Hope that you like this and hope you learn more from this.

Question 8-10

For number eight you have to make two different method of perpendiclar bisectors

Method one

  1. draw a line segment
  2. sharp end of the compass
  3. make an arc slightly larger than half the length of theline segment
  4. repeat the process from point B with the same sized arc
  5. with a ruler join the two arc intersection with a atraight line
  6. now you have a perpendicular bisector

Chapter 03 Review 16-17

Area of a triangle

16. What is the area of each triangles?

a.)36m2

b.)b=5.2m,h=5.3m

17. Aleta has a pasture for her horses. The pasture runs alongside a creek as shown.

a.) What is the approximate area of the pasture? Explain how you determined your answer.

b.) Why is the area approximate?
The creek is not in a straight line

Area of a Triangle

Area of a triangle: Is base times height divided by 2.

Here's a picture that can give you an idea what base times height divided by 2 looks like:

Every triangle is half of a parallelogram. We know the formula to find the area of a parallelogram is base times height. So the formula for the area of a triangle is half the area of a parallelogram. Formula for area of a triangle is base times height divided by 2.

Height of a triangle is a perpendicular line from the base to opposite angle.

Here are some pictures for how it looks like:

Here is a video you can watch to help you:

The homework for today is in your homework booklet pages 36-37

Hope this helps you! :) Please comment on anything that you liked or things I need to improve on! Thank you.

a.) 20 cm²
b.) 21 cm²

Text Book Answers for Number 10-12

10. A parallelogram-shaped stripe is going to be painted on the wall of a daycare centre. There is enough paint to make a stripe with area of 9m². How high can the stripe be?
Answer: The stripe can go up by 6 meters how did i get the answer? i divided 9÷1.5=6 so the height will be 6
here's the formula:
Area of parallelogram
Base×Height=

1.5×6=

9m²

11. a) With a ruler, measure the base and height of this parallelogram. Explain how you measured it.

Answer: Base=2cm, Height=1.5cm. I measured the base with a ruler. Then used a protractor to draw the height perpendicular to the base and measure the height using a ruler.

b) What is the area?

Answer: the area is 3cm² since 2×1.5= 3

c) Use a different side of the parallelogram as the base. Determine the new height and calculate the area. How doe this compare to your answer?

Answer: The answer will be the same.

12. Which of the 2 shapes shown below has a greater area?Explain your answer

Answer: The are is the same because the 2 shapes has the same base and height so if u calculate it with the formula the answer will be 12cm²

Here's a video to help and understand how to do area of parallelogram:
