Question #1

Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6 divided by 2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain
why or why not.

Answer

i do not agree because you sometimes cant trust the calculator. She didn't follow B.E.D.M.A.S too . If she followed B.E.D.M.A.S, she would've got 4.7 .

#2)

Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving Strategy did you use?

Answer

My answer is (3x2.8)+6.4 divided by 4 .

The strategy i used was this ..
6.4 + 6.4 divided by 4
8.4 + 1.6
10

#3)

Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression.
2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6

Solution

Lisa wants to buy a table for her dining room that is $11.75. She went to the store but Lisa notices she only has $2.50 in her back pocket. Then Lisa went back home and finds $1.25 in her couch but she still needs that $8.00. So she decides to have a run to earn money. 5 people gave her $1.60 each. At the end of the day she got her $8.00. Then she goes back to the store and buys the table .

Order of Operations

Order of Operations:

B-Brackets
E-Exponent
D-Division
M-Multiplication
A-Addition
S-Subtraction
Here is an example we did in class:

1.)Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6 divide by 2.

She claims the answer is 3.85.

Do you agree?Explain why or not.

Answer:
I do not agree because she didn't do the B.E.D.M.A.S.The correct answer would be 4.7.
This is how i did do get 4.7 :

2.)Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you use?

There could be two possible answers:

Create a problem that can be solved using the following expression:

Meagan had money and her parents borrowed it. her mom ows her $2.5 and her dad ows her $1.25 and each of her sibling ows her money Cj, John, Joshua, Kisha, and Marry ows her $1.6. She collected all of them and got $11.75

E- Exponents
D- Division
M- Multiplication
A- Addition
S- Subtraction

This is a video explaining BEDMAS.

1. Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6÷2 She claims the answer is 3.85 Do you agree? Explain why or why not.
She is wrong because she didn't follow the Order of Operations and the correct answer is 4.7. I got my answer by doing this:
1.7+6÷2=
1.7+3=
4.7

2. Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you use? 3x2.8+6.4÷4=
There are 3 possible answers. (3 x 2.8) + 6.4 ÷ 4 = 10, 3 x 2.8 + (6.4 ÷ 4) = 10. and (3 x 2.8) + (6.4 ÷ 4) = 10.

3. Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression. 2.5 + 1.25 + 5 x 1.6.
Eric wants to buy a keyboard the cost 11.75 but he only has 1.60 dollars
he went home and ask his mom for 5 dollors
but he still missing 3.75
so he went to his uncles house to ask for money and his uncle gave him 2.50
he still missing 1.25 so he went to his sister for 1.25

Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6÷2 She claims the answer is 3.85 Do you agree? Explain why or why not
I disagree because the answer is 4.7
My calculations :
1.7+6÷2=
1.7+3=
4.7
Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value as possible. what problem solving stratgy did you use?

Order of Operation

1. Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7+6÷2. She claims the answer is 3.85. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.

Answer: No I do not agree. The correct answer is 4.7. This is how I go my answer:

1.7+6÷2
1.7+3
= 4.7

2. Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. What problem solving strategy did you use? 3x2.8+6.4÷4

There can be two possible answers they are:

(3 x 2.8)+ 6.4 ÷ 4 or 3 x 2.8 + (6.4 ÷ 4)
8.4 + 6.4 ÷ 4 3 x 2.8 + 1.6
8.4 + 1.6 8.4 + 1.6
= 10 = 10

3. Create a problem that can be solved using the following expression: 2.5+1.25+5 x 1.6

Stevan had a garage sale. He sold his basketball for $2.50, he also sold a deck of cards for $1.25. Later that day he also sold 5 marbles at $1.60 each. He made a total of $11.75.

Heres an example of what we did in class.

2 x(4+8)÷2-1=
2x12÷2-1=
24÷2-1=
12-1= 11

1) Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 divided by 2. She claims the answer is 3.85.
Do you agree? Explain why or why not.

My Answer: I do not agree because she did not follow b.e.d.m.a.s division comes first before multiplication.
If she did follow b.e.d.m.a.s she would have gotten 4.7.

2) Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible.

3) Create a problem that could be solved using the following expression.
2.5 + 1.5 + 5 x 1.6.

Solution:
Jewel wanted to buy a necklace but it costs 11.75 and she had no money. On the way home from The Necklace Store, Jewel collected 1.50. But she was still short $8. So Jewel told her mother about the necklace and her mother said ill give you 1.60 each chore, so Jewel did 5 chores and she collected exactly 8$! So Jewel now got the necklace she wanted.

Order of operations (language of Math)

B-Brackets ( )E-Exponents a2
D- Division
M-Multiplication ( order from left to right)
A- Addition ( order from left to right)
S- Subtraction

Here is a Example :

1 Annie has been asked to calculate 1.7 + 6 ÷ 2=
she claims that the answer is 3.85 do you agree? Explain why or why not.

A: i don't agree because she didn't use the bedmas which is the order of operations and the answer would be 4.7

2 Put brackets in the following expression to get the largest value possible. what problem solving strategy did you use? 3x2.8 + 6.4÷4

A: (3x2.8)+ 6.4÷4 = i rounded 2.8 into 3 so it would be 3x3

3 Create a problem that could be solve using the following expressions
2.5 +1.25 + 5 x 1.6

Expression: Ken has $10.50. He wen't to a store to buy a drink which cost $1.25. He also bought 5 bags of candy which is $1.60 and bought 1 milk for his brother which cost $2.50. Does he have enough money to buy all those items?

A: No because All those items was $11.75 and he only has $10.50
