Textbook Answers for 4,6 and 12 .

Question 4 :
a) 36.72 divided by 30 = 1.224 ( 30 divided by 30 = 1 )
b) 5.92 divided by 0.4 = 1.48 (6 divided by 0.5 = 3)

Question 6:

Estimtion :
a) 22.5 divided by 6 = 4 (24 divided by 6 = 4. I used over estimate )
b) 4.56 divided by 0.8 = 0.50 (40 divided by 8 = 5 . I used front end estimation )
c) 3.5 divided by 0.5 = 6 (3 divided by 4 = 6 . I used under estimate )
d) 3.5 divided by 0.5 equals 6 (3 divided by 0.5 =6 . I used front end estimation )

Calculate :
a) 37.5 ( 225 divided by 3 = 75 divided by 2 = 37.5 )
b) 5.7 (456 divided by 2 = 228 divided by 2 = 114 divided by 2 = 57 . Or you could just keep doubling the number 57 until you get 456 . )
c) 8.5 (34 divided by 8.5 ) (8.5 x 2 = 12 , x 2 = 34 )
d) 7 (7 divided by 2 = 3.5)

Question 12 :

A carpinter was charged $398.65 to move gravel from the gardeb . She was charged $72.50 per hour. How long did she work for ? Estimate then calculate .

Estimate : 400 divided by 70 = 5.7

Calculate : 398.75 divided by 72.50 = 5.5 ( 5 hours and 30 minutes)
-5.5 x 72.5 = 398.75
-398.75 divided by 5.5 = 72.5
(either way , the answer will still be the same . )
